Information about Lydia
I am a patient, kind tutor with a firm yet supportive approach. I have an MA in Comparative Literature and a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education. I specialise in working with students who lack confidence in their abilities. I have taught in a wide range of settings, including secure institutions, mental health provision and community organisations. I have experience of working with students with special needs, including ADHD, ADD and autism. Along with preparing my students thoroughly for their coursework and exams, I believe in giving my students a good grounding in the subject and developing their study skills. In my spare time I enjoy writing poetry.
Availability: Currently offering both face to face and online sessions - please feel free to get in touch with any questions. Weekday evenings, weekends, daytime availability for home schooled students
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have over 10 years` experience as a personal tutor. I taught GCSE English for Kent Adult Education Service for four years. More recently, I have set up and run GCSE courses for specialist providers. I am experienced in marking GCSE exam papers and assessing speaking and listening. Therefore I have a strong understanding of the exam board requirements for GCSE English. I have also taught creative writing, adult literacy and study skills. While completing my Masters degree at The University of Kent, I taught Comparative Literature to undergraduates.
I have experience of successfully preparing students for entrance exams to many of the private schools in the area, including Sevenoaks School. I am also experienced in writing and delivering bespoke programmes for homeschooled students.
