My bio
Qualified higher and foundation GCSE maths tutor
Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to read my bio!

I am a maths teacher with 9 years’ experience, currently working at a mixed comprehensive school in south Yorkshire where I am the assistant head of maths, I studied mathematics at the University of Bristol and hold an A-Level, and GCSE in maths. I have a proven track record of pushing more able students towards A* (which is now a grade 8/9) and getting borderline students the highly desirable grade C (now a grade 4/5) which is often the defining factor as to whether a student may be accepted on to a college/sixth form course.

I have led the implementation of the new specification GCSE (grade 9 - 1) at my current school where we attained an excellent progress 8 score (the new measure of the effectiveness of teaching) and having worked with students at both higher and foundation tiers of entry I have numerous resources that I can tailor to suit any learner`s needs to help towards their target grade. I can also provide students with a wealth of online support to help their revision/work when I am not there.

The new GCSE tests student’s ability to adapt their knowledge in maths, rather than to just be able to remember a method/formula and regurgitate it and this is an area I am strong at a developing student`s in. Given the rigours of the new GCSE I favour a mastery approach to my teaching as I feel it is better to give students a deeper understanding as to why they are doing something rather than just following a process/method which is easily forgotten.

I am happy to support any students at KS3 or KS4, whether it is to prepare a student for an exam, catch-up after a significant period of absence, help with a resit, or just support their learning from their school/college.

I am free to tutor most evenings and can be flexible to suit your needs.

Feel free to get in touch and I will happily answer any questions.
