Information about Leonardo

I am a friendly and approachable 3rd year UCL medical student who believes that everybody should have the resources and knowledge they need to do their best. I`ve achieved seven 9s and two 8s in GCSE, and A*A*A in Maths, Chem and Bio respectively.

I am keen to commit myself to giving you all the support you need in order to achieve your fullest potential. In year 11, I was struggling very much with my exams, but thankfully my path was crossed with some amazing teachers who really contributed to getting my results to what they are now. Of course, there is more to success than a teacher - but this showed me the impact that good teaching can have on a student, and ever since I have always been eager to teach. I am able to sympathize with students of all academic positions, and am eager to tutor all by offering not only subject support for exams in the short-run, but also study and revision techniques they can take outside of lessons and apply to any subject in the long term for the rest of the careers.

I got a position as a GCSE assistant chemistry teacher at HCACP which refined my knowledge of the syllabus, and gave me the opportunity to practice explaining difficult concepts in chunks that are easy to understand. Attendance at multiple medical outreach events also exposed me to multiple different teaching methods, and I am eager to apply all of these to the lesson in order to make it engaging, or adapt and select a single learning style in order to match the learner’s preference. Mentoring 2 students for years has also taught me how to sympathise with a student’s situation, which in turn gives me greater insight and enables me to identify a student’s issue, which in turn helps me tailor lessons and homework more effectively to a student’s individual needs. I am constantly improving these skills as I tutor students, including a student applying for Cambridge Natural sciences.

Having performed many practice questions myself, and explored many different resources, this will enable me to craft homework myself and ensure that it is as relevant as possible to the learner’s particular exam and syllabus. If the student is willing, I can also provide mock tests myself to assess progress. Finally, I can update the parents on the student’s progress every lesson

If needed, I can not only provide full and comprehensive teaching within the curriculum, but also foster an extra-curricular interest in their desired career (something is so highly valued by competitive universities). I believe my own engagement in the research world and personal laboratory experience at Kings DevNeuro qualifies me for this.

I have already supported students with their personal statements, UCAT and BMAT. My admission exams and personal statement led me to getting an interview at all my medical universities, and I would be glad to offer training in these areas, where I share skills and resources that helped me do this, In addition, I provide full support for interviews - including worksheets, mock interviews and planning sessions where I teach interview technique that helped me get interviews at prestigious medical schools in London (Imperial, Kings and UCL). Whilst my background is mainly medical, I am also willing to provide support for other science-related subjects.

I love empowering students and seeing that my lessons enable them to succeed in areas that they were previously struggling. It is very satisfying to see commitment being paid off in this way, and I believe that right now tutoring is the best way in order to continue this passion of mine at university.

I look forward to tutoring you if you choose me, and thank you for reading!

Leonardo is a fantastic tutor. His lessons are excellently planned and tailored to me. I have seen a significant improvement in my understanding of chemistry. He has also given me amazing tips on how to revise/study and goes above and beyond to help me to do the best that I can in my academic career. Leonardo is a very patient teacher and creates a comfortable learning atmosphere.
