My name is Lavinia,

I have always been interested in science, but I would not describe myself as being a child that was`naturally gifted`in the topic.

I can attribute my academic success to a select few teachers, personal determination and consistency regarding studying.

Having once been the student that asked `why?, and just didn`t `get it`, I find my teacher-self particularly suited to the learning styles of children of all abilities.

My teaching style often involves taking the abstract and making the concept more real to students, by relating it to everyday scenarios.

I studied biomedical science in university, and also tutored university students in areas such as immunology, physiology and biochemistry.

From my experience as a secondary school science teacher, I find that many exam failures are the result of question comprehension. Many young people think science exams require fancy responses but end up missing the focal point of the question. To combat this I feel most effective approach is in a calm environment away from peer pressure and with the use of exam questions throughout each session.
