Information about Nigel
I have been a professional biologist for over 20 years, both as a teacher and a research scientist. I have taught students from 10-60 years of age! I am an expert in animal behaviour, ecology and evolution, but have a thorough knowledge throughout the discipline of biology. My work has taken me all over the world, but especially to Africa and the Americas. I am an enthusiastic, upbeat person, and relate well to young people of all ages. I have recently re-settled back in Scotland after spending several years working in the United States. My working hours are flexible, so I am in an ideal position to take on a tutoring role.
Availability: I have a very flexible work schedule, and am available on all weekdays and most weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I am a very experienced biology/science teacher. I have taught at St. Andrews University, the Open University, and at the State University of New York, where I was employed as a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor. I have also taught in both state and private schools in Scotland and have led many residential field courses in tropical biology, in Uganda, Madagascar, Peru and Costa Rica. In addition to my formal teaching commitments, I have privately tutored university students and school pupils, including some with Special Needs. I am familiar with new curricular developments in UK education and, more specifically, with the Curriculum for Excellence.
