Information about Annalise

Hi! I’m Annalise. I’m a Durham University Biological Sciences graduate with over three years’ experience tutoring Biology, Chemistry and Maths at GCSE/iGCSE, and Biology at A Level/IB. I’ve also authored revision materials for a prominent UK revision website. I love talking about science - so much so that next year I’ll be undertaking a Master’s degree in Science Communication with [contact detail removed]. I completed an A* Extended Project Qualification when I was at sixth form and can offer guidance on Biology-related EPQs and CREST projects as well. I’m also a self-taught ukulele player, although I promise not to demonstrate. My tutorials are relaxed and friendly, with an emphasis on repetition, discussion, and understanding. I’m also experienced with higher education mentoring (I’ve volunteered for several years with social enterprise Slipstream Education), and can advise on most aspects of applying to university.

Availability: I`m a full-time tutor at the moment, so my availability is fairly extensive!

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I`ll usually begin my sessions by asking you a few definitions of key words to help gauge your level of understanding. We`ll then begin talking through the topic, drawing lots of diagrams and pictures and making notes and mind-maps as we go. I`ll ask you lots of questions and encourage you to apply your knowledge in different ways - repetition is key to retention. My sessions are very discussion-based; I like to talk, and I especially like to talk about science! I`ll make sure we`re covering all of the content by consulting your specification. It`s key, and often overlooked, that at GCSE and A Level your learning should very much be guided by the syllabus. After we`ve covered all of the material, we`ll take a look at some past exam questions; I`ll demonstrate one, we`ll do a few together, and hopefully by the end of the session you`ll feel confident tackling exam questions by yourself. I can point you in the direction of resources to look at outside of sessions and I`m happy to mark questions if you`d like me to.
