Information about Jade
With a BSc and an MSc in Biomedical Science and Neuroscience, respectively, I am particularly interested and suited for tutoring Biology students (up to A Level). However I do I have a bit of a sweet spot for maths and also love to teach Mathematics (up to GCSE level).
My approach is fairly Socratic in that I like to use questions to lead my sessions. I find that this encourages students to think through the logic of their answers rather than rely on rote memorisation. I recommend that the tutoring period is at least the length of an academic year as I believe that supporting the student from the start builds a great foundation.
With that said, tutoring is a service I provide that gives me joy and satisfaction but I am not reliant on it as my sole income. As such, I will always let you know if the student and my teaching style is not the best fit.
Availability: I`m am a full time researcher at King`s College London and therefore my availability for tutoring is generally weekdays from 6pm onwards.
I`m happy to make home visits or meet in a public space such as the Idea Store in Canary Wharf. However since the start of the pandemic, I have moved exclusively online using a variety of excellent tools such as Zoom and iPad Pro. I think I have an excellent set up that will help make my lessons an interesting and interactive experience.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I`m currently tutoring students from a range of 13 - 17 years old in:
- Maths (KS3, GCSE and 11+/13+ Entrance Exams).
- Biology (KS3, GCSE, A Level)
- Chemistry (KS3, GCSE)
- Physics (KS3, GCSE)
Additionally, I have previously enjoyed working as a teaching assistant, predominately for an A Level Biology class. During this time, I also organised one-one sessions where I could work with a student on a particular topic that they found difficult. Furthermore, I am a examination marker for A Level Biology papers.
