Information about Joanna

☆;;;;;;;;;;;;;; NB: I am now offering all my lessons online, in light of the continued Covid 19 cases, to protect myself and my students.☆;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Joanna L.T.C.L. An experienced, kind Singing teacher (Beginners to ABRSM Grade 8 and beyond) and Music Theory (Grades 1-5) teacher giving hourly 1-2-1 lessons.

Available after-school hours and some daytimes.
Enhanced DBS certificate held.

I have a passion for music and love to encourage this enthusiasm in my students. Whether you are preparing for ABRSM grade exams, an upcoming performance or just want to sing for fun and improve your technique, I can help.
I am patient and kind and teach from ages 7 to adults of all levels and most styles.

I also welcome other instrumentalists (as well as singers) who wish to improve their musicianship by working through the Music Theory (ABRSM) grade examinations syllabus, from grades 1 to 5. I teach Music Theory separately.

Availability: Most afternoon hours or weekday evenings for adult students, after work. Fairly flexible schedule.
After-school hours Monday to Friday 3.30pm to 7pm.
Some Saturday afternoons.

Willing to travel: 1 miles

Experience: I am classically trained (LTCL) and attended Trinity College of Music, London as a violinist and singer. I was fortunate to work as a professional singer for many years and now feel a duty to pass on my knowledge and experience, especially now that the Arts are being increasingly side-lined in general education.

I specialise in teaching a stable and relaxed breathing technique, working on this alone, until the student understands fully and feels it, in their body. I have adapted my exercises so that they are fun (not just technical) for all ages. Once this has been established, then we look at some songs and the student can choose what they want to learn, at first.
I love to tailor the lessons and my repertoire recommendations, to each individual`s vocal "instrument" and needs.

I have been teaching music privately for over 10 years and also have a Cambridge CELTA teaching qualification.
I don`t believe in entering for exams until the student is absolutely ready, to keep exam stress to a minimum and confidence high. I have a 100% pass-rate and proven track-record of achieving Merits and Distinctions with all my ABRSM exam students.
Previous experience also includes 6 years working as a Creative Classes teacher at a Montessori Nursery School.
