I`m a fully qualified teacher with over 16 years experience teaching in UK private and state high schools. My specialism is A-Level Biology. I have been working as an A level biology tutor since 2014. I have numerous references from satisfied parents and students; please check my feedback.

I studied Agriculture and Biochemistry at Aberystwyth University before obtaining my PGCE and qualifying as a teacher. I worked as a teacher for five years before changing course and being employed in managerial positions in agriculture and large scale horticulture in the UK and in agricultural education and development in the tropics. I returned to teaching in 2003. I have taught students of all abilities and at levels ranging from KS3 to Oxbridge candidates. Gradings of my lessons following observations, including those by OFSTED inspectors, were consistently rated outstanding. “A very gentle but extremely skilled practitioner” OFSTED inspector March 2013.

I`m experienced and fully resourced for the current AQA and OCR A, A-level Biology specifications. I teach via Zoom. For each topic I employ worksheets developed by myself, also collections of past questions specific to the exam board with which the student is studying. These are sent as email attachments the day before each lesson. Lessons are spent going through worksheets and/or past questions together. My aim is to ensure student knowledge is secure and that understanding is complete and then, by studying past questions and mark schemes, to refine answering technique and build confidence id dealing with those challenging application questions!

I feel that the varied nature of my career, encompassing periods of practical farming in both developed temperate, and developing tropical situations, has benefitted me tremendously as a science and biology teacher. Drawing on practical examples of science in action has helped me to make the subject more relevant to the real world and has proved invaluable in stimulating the interest of my students.
