Information about Alexandra
With over ten years of experience as a private tutor and six years of teaching in secondary schools, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help students excel in Philosophy, Ethics, and Religious Studies. I am well-versed in all major UK exam boards.
My deep understanding of these curricula allows me to tailor my teaching to meet the unique requirements of each student. I am a patient and knowledgeable educator with a passion for my subject.
My enthusiasm for Philosophy and Ethics is infectious, and I strive to instill the same passion for learning in my students. I am adept at supporting students across various attainment levels, from those who need foundational support to those aiming for top grades.
Please feel free to contact me, I would be more than happy to assist your child.
Availability: I am available most evenings from 6:30pm onwords
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: My academic area of interests lies within Theology and Religious Studies (with a strong focus on Christian theologies of liberation, namely Black Liberation Theology, Womanism, Asian Womens Theology, Islam within the Black American experience and Afro-Pessimism).
My subject specialism also includes decolonising knowledge and issues of social justice pertaining to gender, race, class, sexual identity, disability and climate justice within the English Religious Education (RE) curriculum.
Within my role as a classroom teacher, I have created and delivered lessons, schemes of work and modules that have elevated the students pre-existing knowledge. My contributions have also helped to raise the profile of the department/ subject and increase the number of students taking the subject at both GCSE and A-level. An example of my contribution to this includes the following: effectively introducing students to the Religion and Worldview paradigm. Instilling this from a decolonial and anti-racist lens not only allowed me to challenge their pre-existing epistemological assumptions and heighten the level of cultural literacy across the entire school.
Examples of my schemes of work include the following: Black Religion and Protest which introduced students to cultural and spiritual forms of protest and Christian theologies outside of a Eurocentric tradition that is premised on cross-cultural socio-political imaginings of Jesus. It is worth noting that this unit has received international attention. Additionally, other modules include The power of Activism and Islam, politics and society.
Within this time, I have further strengthened my excellent written and verbal communication skills. This is demonstrated through clear and concise rigorous feedback to students in both verbal and written form. When giving feedback to students I always endeavor to praise their strengths and seek to support them to improve the areas that need more development.
Owing to my years as a secondary school teacher and academic, I have very strong organisation skills, I work well under pressure, and I work well independently, but I can equally contribute to the growth, efficiency and productivity when working with and/or leading a team.
