Information about Andrea
I have an interest in grammar, poetry and literature in both English and Welsh, thus these are modules I have leaned toward as specialisms during my academic career.
I am friendly and approachable and have a great way with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Please, feel free to message me with any queries.
Availability: I am available for tuition on weeknights, except for Tuesdays, from 5:00 pm. I am also available in the morning on Sundays.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Over the course of 10 years, I have tutored students of a range of ages, from primary school students to adults at degree-level education, with extremely successful results. This has been across English medium, Welsh first language and Welsh second language curricula. Each of the students I have tutored has seen their marks improve by at least one grade. Among the main achievements of my learners, I consider the following:
a jump from failing grades to 2:2 at degree in Welsh;
a jump one whole grade in A Level second language Welsh to ensure the
learners place at his first choice university;
a jump of 1-2 grades in GCSE second language Welsh to secure an A*.
As part of my University degree, I undertook `Welsh for Adults` modules which studied various teaching and learning styles and how to apply these to the needs of individuals. I find this to be an invaluable background to all of the tuition I conduct.
The work I undertake daily is centred on current and emerging Welsh language legislation, i.e. Welsh Government linguistic policy. I am, therefore, on board and well versed in what Welsh Governments target of ensuring 1,000,000 Welsh speakers in Wales by the year 2050 means and the value this places on Welsh language skills. In addition, my work has close connections with the education system in Wales, ensuring my familiarity with educational policy and standards.
