Information about Kristina

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to consider me as your English / Memory Intervention Tutor.

As you will see from my profile, I have qualifications and experience in working with children and youth throughout North America and the United Kingdom. I believe I closely match the skills and experience you require for your needs. I have dealt with a wide range of Youth Support throughout my career and have studied this at University.

I have excellent communication, listening and skills for a wide variety of backgrounds, social classes and abilities. I am very organised with strong administrative skills including MS Office experience. I am also highly methodical and accurate in my approach to work.

I am a calm, reliable and flexible individual with a positive “can do” approach that helps keep my sense of humour and good nature even in difficult circumstances. I have learned how to deal and cope with people with challenging difficulties through my varied roles and have good knowledge of why certain behavioural issues arise and how to handle these in the correct way. I am passionate about progressing and improving the lives of young people in a positive direction to give them better qualities of life, more self respect, confidence and a better belief in their own abilities.

I hope you find my skills and qualifications suitable for your needs. Please do no hesitate to contact me should you require any further details.

Availability: Saturday mornings from 9-2pm. Will meet within the Portsmouth Public Library.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: My current position as a Teaching Assistant at Priory School / Bohunt Education Trust has provided me with more hands on experience with the UK school system. My role requires me to work with children of lower abilities to achieve their targets and academic goals. This includes differentiating work for pupils, classroom behaviour management, and providing feedback to teachers on what could better help particular pupils to progress in lessons. I was also required to participate in morning Interventions with pupils. Noticing a need for memory skills in the younger pupils I work with, I created a Memory Training Intervention geared towards playing games to exercise specific areas in the brain that deal with memory.

As was required in my role for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, my main duties were to asses the needs of new customers and sign-post them to programmes that could be beneficial to them. I also assisted in finding adaptive devices such as magnifiers for those who have low vision.

I enjoy working with and helping young people realise their potential and achieve their aspirations. In November of 2010, I volunteered in the Mirrors Program as a Committed Partner. I worked with two teenage girls age 16 who I met with once a week to discuss their goals and help them achieve them. Although both young people decided that they did not want to complete the program, I remained committed to the program and worked with other young persons in the cohort.

Prior to employment at my current job, I volunteered at Parent Support Link. This organization works with people affected by other’s drug use. I volunteered once a week on the contact line which is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. My role was to listen to the caller and suggest supports if needed. It was a very fulfilling opportunity and I have been able to use some of the skills learned while studying.
