Information about Elmo

To learn by enduring through tiresome lectures, or by mundane repetition, is not only dull but ineffective! I employ a conversational approach: through amusing debates and thought-provoking questions I aim to find and correct misconceptions, nurture a solid understanding, and above all keep lessons interesting and engaging. I encourage students to work out answers by thinking deeply about the theory behind what is being learnt, rather than repeating what they have memorised. I firmly believe in reviewing previously studied content on a regular basis - a crucial practice as it facilitates the storage of information in your long-term memory to allow for quick recall with minimal effort. I aim to provide carefully planned, personalised tuition that makes use of research-approved pedagogical techniques to ensure rapid progress.

In a typical lesson you can expect:
- A starter activity involving short questions, tailored to you, about what you have learnt in past lessons
- Teaching in bite-sized chunks followed by intervals of short questions
- Ample opportunity for exam practice, with strategically selected past paper questions from your exam board

Elmo’s teaching is very engaging and is really helping our daughter prepare for her sciences GCSE. Elmo is very reliable and writes up lesson notes which is very helpful.

I started lessons with Elmo in Year 13 after struggling with A-level chemistry. Elmo is an exceptional tutor and has helped improve my chemistry knowledge, exam technique and my grades since the first lesson. He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject, but also teaches information in a manageable way so that even the most confusing concepts make sense. He has great advice on how to pick up marks and different revision techniques. The notes that are created in the lesson are also another great revision resource that can be used. In my lessons I would also often ask Elmo about questions I had attempted in my free time / in school that I could not understand. He was great at helping me work through the questions, understanding both the chemistry and exam technique. This was something that I found very helpful! Elmo was also very professional and always on time. Closer to my A level exams, we increased my lessons to twice a week as Elmo was definitely worth the money! In the end, I achieved an A grade in Chemistry and secured a place to study Medicine at University (something that did not seem possible at the start of year 13). Thank you for all the help Elmo! I would definitely recommend to anyone at any level looking for a tutor!

First lesson went very well, good explanation of the topic and the use of the whiteboard was very useful. Looking forward the next lesson.
