Information about Helen
Hello! I currently live in sunny Exmouth where I qualified as a teacher 11 years ago, having successfully completed the Primary P.G.C.E teacher training course at Plymouth University. Previous to that I lived in Derby where I went to University to study a BA in Education Studies. I`ve always enjoyed working with children and take great pleasure in helping them to reach their full potential.
Availability: I am available most week day evenings, after school time.
I am more flexible for online sessions at the moment as I am not working.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Over the past 10 years I have worked as a personal tutor to children of a primary school age. I have gained my understanding of the curriculum through working in 2 primary schools since qualifying as a teacher, working across all year groups to broaden my skills and knowledge of all primary ages. Most of my time is spent working with intervention groups in Numeracy and English or Phonics. I have regularly covered teachers PPA sessions throughout my career and, more recently, taught in a year 5 class.
I can adapt my teaching styles to each individual child, as different children respond to different teaching methods. I use lots of interesting resources which will allow the child to maximise their potential.
Working with individuals and small groups in my intervention work has honed my skills as a personal tutor. I am offering help to primary school age children in Numeracy and Literacy and also Phonics (Letters and Sounds). I have supported year 6 children heavily in their preparation for SATs over the past few years and believe this to be a strength of mine. I have also helped children with their 11+ exams in preparation for their entrance exams into grammar school.
We can arrange an informal meeting between myself and you and the child concerned to find out what areas they need help with and to help me set up an overall plan we both agree on.
I look forward to hearing from you.
