Information about Vicki
I am an experienced teacher and ex head of Humanities who has worked in both the public and private sectors, teaching a range of levels and abilities from Key stage 2, SEN, GCSE, A Level and Adult Learners. I have experience of teaching History for AQA , OCR and Edexcel exam boards
Before I became a Humanities teacher I spent several years teaching in primary schools before moving to secondary education where I specialised in History and Classics. Whilst there I also taught a range of Humanities subjects, including GCSE Geography.
For ten years I was the Director of Humanities in a large academy where I mainly taught GCSE and A Level, History and Classics. To ensure that I understood the requirements of the courses we were teaching I became an examiner for History GCSE and A Level Classical Civilisation. .I currently mark A Level History exams for AQA. and also moderate the AQA A Level History coursework.
I am currently working as a teacher of History in an International Boarding school but in my spare time I do online tutoring, which I thoroughly enjoy.
Evidence suggests that we learn better if we feel secure and safe, therefore my aim is to make lessons enjoyable and stimulating, and a place where students, no matter their age, feel supported and encouraged to take risks with out fear.
I am passionate about most types of History, and I hope that sometimes my enthusiasm sparks an interest in others.
Most of the time teaching is a two way exchange of information and I feel I learn a lot from students as any contribution is valuable; everyone has an opinion and each persons perspective will be different.
Therefore students opinion are as valid as mine; my aim is to teach people the skills to give voice to their thoughts and to express their beliefs in a coherent and logical way.
I believe most people learn best when they are entertained, so a few years ago I combined my love of Literature and History, to write a number historical fiction books which I published under a pen name.
Availability: During the holidays I am available any time in the week including weekends.
In term time I am available all day Thursday and Friday and the weekends, as well as most evenings after seven.

Experience: I have over 20 years experience of teaching A level and GCSE History and Classics as well GCSE Geography.
In the summer I am an A Level History examiner marking exams for AQA.
I have also recently qualified as a TEFL teacher.
I tutored primary level for 15 years but now prefer to teach History and Classics online, though I am happy to teach Geography GCSE , as well Citizenship, RE and PSHE.

After my autistic 18 year old daughter struggled with the exam period at school and withdrew from OCR History A level, we hired Vicki as her tutor...and I`m so pleased we did! She has been an absolute star. My daughter doesn`t find it easy to communicate online, especially with people she`s unfamiliar with, but she felt completely at ease by the end of her first session and has genuinely enjoyed her time with Vicki. Her approachable and friendly nature have been invaluable, and she`s so knowledgeable about her subject matter too. It was a joy to hear how animated my daughter was chatting to her about each topic! We both highly recommend Vicki as a tutor.

It has been a pleasure having Vicki tutor my daughter in History during Year 13. Her passion for the subject is evident in every lesson, and she has a wonderful ability to make sessions engaging, even for a student who can be quite quiet and reserved. Vicki has really helped my daughter with her A-level history revision. She has filled in the gaps in my daughter`s knowledge and explained how to answer the questions in the exam. My daughter has enjoyed her lessons with Vicki, and she was so much more confident going into her exams.
