Information about Jemma
Hello!
My name is Jemma and I am a final year medical student at King`s College London. Previously I intercalated at Kings College London completing a BSc in Psychology with First Class Honours.
I`m a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic individual who`s keen to share my passion for Science with others. I try to make tutoring as interactive and as enjoyable as I can - as I personally found that teachers who utilised different approaches to teaching, in addition to traditional classroom learning, were the most effective and helpful. I have a passion for education and have worked with a range of age groups, from four-year-old students in Beijing learning English to sixth form students studying for their A-levels. Understanding your tutees expectations and learning pace is key for success organisation and communication with people from all ages and backgrounds are integral to being a good tutor.
In my roles as a first aider and as a medical student, I have developed my ability to handle and resolve challenging situations both independently under pressured time restraints. I have demonstrated good listening skills and empathy with patients, families and colleagues, gaining first-hand experience in resolving conflict in a calm and professional manner.
Previously I attended Pate`s Grammar School in Cheltenham, I can relate to students and can give advice where appropriate from my own experiences. I understand that at times subject content, the workload and time management of studies can feel overwhelming! However, a bit of extra time each week working on tricky topics and answering questions can minimise homework/exam stress.
A level - AAB Biology, Chemistry, Latin
AS level - AAAA Biology, Chemistry, Latin, Physics
GCSE - 8 A*`s, 2 A`s
I am also first aid trained and have an enhanced DBS check.
Additionally, I can offer personal statement advice for UCAS and interview prep sessions as well as proof reading services.
Availability: I`m available weekdays and weekends.
I can tutor as many times as is required a week, I live in Bermondsey so am able to travel to meet students virtually on Zoom or at their home in Zone 1/2.
**Apologies to any parents in the Hertfordshire area who have contacted me as I have recently moved to Central London.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have tutored secondary school and primary school students both in groups and individually, going over parts of the syllabus that they had been taught that week but with an emphasis on specific topics that were not as well understood. I ensured it was a priority to create an environment where students always felt comfortable to ask questions or go over details as many times as necessary. I have tutored students at GCSE and A level in both Biology and Chemistry, as well as Science at KS2 and KS3. Additionally, I have taught English online to groups of students age 4-7 years in Beijing. This aided development of my online teaching methods and virtual classroom control.
Whilst at University I have obtained Sports Colours and am the President of KCL Reproductive Health Society. I set up a widening participation scheme for prospective medical students at sixth-forms in East London. My latest project was co-founding The 6PM Series, a series of free Zoom lectures run by UK based junior doctors daily at 6PM for clinical year medical students, to bridge the gap in medical education that Covid-19 has created. I have also been an active member of Save A Babys Life Scheme teaching paediatric first aid in the community. I have volunteered as a Leader at various `Beaver` Scout groups for boys and girls aged 5-8 years old. This has helped me to continue to develop my communication skills with children, parents and my peers.
