Information about Charlie
Hello! I am a specialist tutor in English and Drama/Theatre Studies at GCSE, A-Level and Degree level who focuses on transforming written technique. I also prepare students for entrance exams, scholarships and UCAS applications, honing interview skills alongside curricular studies. I hold a First-class Joint Honours Degree in English Literature and Drama from the University of East Anglia.
Please note, due to the current Government recommendations I will also be providing Skype and Facetime sessions in order to support students with virtual schooling.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I have tutored students in a range of subjects, and as such have considerable experience in identifying the particular issues each student faces. Having worked in various private and comprehensive schools, I am well acquainted with the new syllabuses for English and Drama/Theatre Studies. I have also prepared pupils for UCAS applications, having successfully secured places for my students at some of the UKs top universities.
My specialism, simply due to having so many requests for help in these subjects, are English and Drama students that have the knowledge but perhaps struggle to convert it into the grades they deserve. These subjects at GCSE and A-level are particularly tricky and require a carefully honed written technique to obtain the highest grades.
I prefer a relaxed but engaging approach that helps my pupils to apply their knowledge with confidence. I focus on essay-writing and exam technique, providing a clear strategy for each pupil I work with. I firmly believe in bringing a subject to life by teaching it through the world of the tutee, so as to ensure its relevance. Central to my approach is that sessions should always be fun whilst continuing to address the issues at hand.
I am able to teach in students` homes within London or at my home in Belsize Park, Hampstead. I also offer tuition to students who live further out, as long as the parent or guardian is happy for the student to meet halfway. This has worked really well with students in the past (I often use the H Club in Covent Garden, as it provides the perfect calm environment for working.)
I always offer a 30 minute free consultation before beginning sessions where we can discuss your goals and expectations (this is indicated as 50% off on the First Tutors website). If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch: I will always endeavour to reply within a few hours to your email.
Please find a couple of extra testimonials from previous tutees below:
The tutoring sessions I had with Charlie leading up to my A2 exams firstly helped to simply calm me down about the looming pressure I was about to face. He helped me to apply my knowledge in a way that would showcase it best to examiners. In particular the way in which he helped me structure essays in timed conditions certainly helped to boost my grade in English. - Catherine Fenton, A2 English
"Charlie is a very approachable guy and the support he gave me to help write and construct my personal statement to study medicine at Cambridge was invaluable.`` - Mohammad Sikder, Oxbridge Applicant
``Charlies CV sessions were very helpful, working on my CV presentation and Interview technique very much helped me secure my first Job at an exciting new fashion company.`` - Amalia Corbett, College Graduate

My son was struggling with confidence for his A level drama. I found Charlie on Tutor Hunt. He was great for my son, who says Charlies very friendly and warm personality puts you at ease when rehearsing or asking for help. He confidently passes on knowledge and techniques that really aid you in performance, and his teaching and friendliness helps you build your confidence
Charlie seemed to know exactly what my son needed for the rigours of the drama exam and performance. He was a pleasure to have come to teach.
