Information about Charlotte

I am a qualified and experienced teacher, tutor and trained examiner and tutor from my home in Frodsham. I have been teaching for 8 years and I teach across all key stages and exam boards. I am graded `Outstanding` by Ofsted and the pupils Ive taught/tutored make exceptional progress in their examinations every year. I have worked in a range of schools, with a range of experiences, giving me varied and appropriate training in order to address the needs of the pupils I work with. I have completed a course on one-to-one tuition and I have an extensive range of experience working with different groups of pupils and assessing their individual needs. I am familiar with all assessment materials, specifications and schemes of work in order to support and enhance a student`s learning. I will also tutor for entrance examinations to schools, adults wanting to gain greater confidence with their English skills, or students studying English in Further and Higher Education. I offer a service of marking and feedback in addition to my tutoring, where I can support on proof reading essays or marking practise examination scri pts to aid learning and revision. I offer both one to one tuition and small group tuition at each key stage to suit the needs of the tutee.

Experience: I completed my English with Drama PGCE at Warwick University. Since qualifying, I have taught high ability pupils in need of challenge to maximise their full potential. I also have much experience in working with pupils with social and emotional difficulties, and those with special educational needs, including English as an additional language. I have taught the combined course A Level ‘English Literature and Language’ and continue to teach A Level ‘English Literature’ with successful results. I have held management positions in school and consequently received high quality training around increasing pupil performance and making all teaching and learning address the needs of the individual. I completed the prestigious `Teaching Leaders` course where I was selected from hundreds of candidates nationally to train as an outstanding leader with staff and students.

I feel the success to one-to-one tutoring is to build a relationship with the tutee, to find out their approach to learning, to discover what they enjoy, but also what they find difficult and what they avoid. I believe in instilling confidence in a learner. Pupils often struggle because they lack self-esteem and their self-perception is that they are a failure – this hinders their motivation and ability to progress and achieve. My approach is to reassure and instil confidence for success. I take time to show pupils how they can achieve I focus on building a student’s learning in manageable chunks to give immediate successes to support and increase confidence, and consequently further progress. It is crucial to then build upon the requirements of the learner and adapt each session to their changing needs. It is also paramount to listen to the concerns of the parent / carer and understand what they want from a tutor. Additionally, it`s beneficial to collate as much information regarding current learning, including reports and grades /levels enabling prior learning to be built upon and ensuring tuition leads to personal and academic success.
I feel it’s equally important to have the ability to support learners who are looking to stretch and challenge themselves and wish for a tutor in order to further their success. I can support a tutee to move forward and set them the right challenges to enable them to do this. I make it a priority to maximise the potential of every student.

My son seems really happy with Charlotte, it`s really surprising to seem him come out almost enthused about the subject!
