Information about Mirei
Teaching is my passion. UCL Physics Graduate with A*A*AA for A-levels and 5 years of experience in teaching. Teaching students Mathematics from 4 to 16 year olds in a tuition centre, helped me discover that teaching is something I greatly enjoy.
One of my strongest skills as a teacher is being able to identify students` weaknesses very early on (in what they`re learning). This is accompanied by my strong communication skills. I teach at the pace that best suits the student, and make sure that the student understands a concept before moving on. And the combination of these skills, along with my patience and friendliness, helps to grow students` grades very efficiently.

Experience: -MATHS-
4 year experience in tutoring. I have also worked as a maths tutor in a local tuition centre for 3 years. Understanding common students` mistakes and exam technique has allowed me to give good advice to students over the years. I also understand that Maths may not be a student`s favourite subject, especially during GCSEs where it is compulsory to study it. So I try to make my lessons as engaging and interesting as possible. When teaching, I will be using a drawing tablet to help students visualise graphs or abstract concepts.
I have experience in teaching Edexcel, OCR and OCR MEI.
-PERSONAL STATEMENTS-
When I was in Year 13, I was given offers from all universities I submitted an application to. Including an unconditional offer from UCL. Therefore I am confident that I would be able to provide advice for students needing help with their personal statements.
Prior to the personal statement lesson, I ask my students to send me a draft of their personal statement so that I have a clear idea on the main points to focus on during the lesson. And in the lesson, some common points I go over are:
- contents of the personal statement, such as discussing experiences that the student could write in their personal statement,
- musts and must-nots in a personal statement,
- sentence styles of a good personal statement,
- how to describe relevant experiences written in their personal statements, to show the best version of themselves.
Last year, all my students were able to get offers from top universities including UCL, King`s College London, Bath and Queen Mary.
