Information about Sam
Hi, I`m Sam. I`m a 24 year old graduate from the University of Manchester with a passion of encouraging students to achieve their full potential, in a friendly and inclusive way. Maths is great and you shouldn`t be scared of it. It can be fun and fulfilling and I want to show my students that. I`m interested in almost anything and everything and thrive when I share this energy with others.
In terms of teaching, I want to know what they know and what they don`t; get on their level so we can learn together. Empathising with student`s understanding is THE most important part of teaching. I like to think that this method is far less intimidating for the student, encouraging rather than telling, teaching rather than preaching.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Before university I worked at Harrow International School Bangkok for a year as a teaching assistant and boarding staff member. During my time there, I helped kids with their homework in the boarding house and helped in various lessons in the school. I was asked by the head of the Maths Department to tutor a few students who were either struggling or needed pushing. The success of these tutoring sessions spread to some of the parents on sight and I ended up tutoring more and more students during and after school time. I was even entrusted with teaching A level Maths lessons where I used the same techniques I had learnt from tutoring, with great success. I tutored at almost all levels, from early secondary, to GCSE, to A level Maths and Further Maths.
In addition, whilst at University, I volunteered as a Peer Assisted Study Scheme Tutor, where I provided academic support both in and outside of our weekly sessions.
At home (in North Wales), I also aided a family friend during her GCSEs, bringing her Chemistry grade up from a grade C to an A.
