Years of providing outdoor education to a variety of age groups has instilled in me a desire to help young people achieve their goals, whatever those may be. It is a joy to see a student`s progression in whatever subject area I am teaching. With a master`s degree in Geology, I wanted to pass on my scientific and mathematical knowledge in the same way as the outdoor skills I was teaching, so entered into personal tutoring.
I have experience tutoring with every age group from primary to adult and am able to quickly assess your or your child`s needs to provide a personalised approach that will produce effective results. Everyone is different and responds to different learning techniques, so I will tailor my tutoring sessions in a way that will encourage maximum understanding of the subject in the minimum of time, as I understand that personal tutoring is expensive. By offering lower than usual rates I aim to make one-to-one tuition more affordable to those who need it most.
I aim to make sessions, particularly for children, varied and engaging. Different learning techniques work well for different people, so I aim to take students away from the methods most commonly used in schools, that are not useful to everyone, and use varying approaches to aid understanding of technical subjects. Often all it takes to go from `not good` to A grades is a different take on a subject. I am able to offer this to every student to ensure success.
I am in my late 20`s and based in Kendal. Outside of tutoring, I am an active climber, runner and skier and spend the majority of my time outdoors.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have many years experience teaching a variety of age groups, primarily in outdoor education. I tutor maths and sciences to children, teenagers and adults, including some students with dyslexia.

Maria is kind, calm and very good at giving precise and clear information to my children. One of my boys wants her to come everyday! We are a home educating family and my boys are not used to staying still in one place for long. Maria makes maths interesting and simple enough for them to learn for much longer amounts of time than they are used to! I would totally recommend Maria.

Really good tutor, teaching both of my children on several subjects, and just got our daughter through GCSE Chemistry a year early. Thank you so much.
