Information about Rebecca

I have recently come to the end of my PhD in synthetic and analytical Chemistry at the University of Reading, which built on my Master`s in Chemistry from the University of Bristol. At A-level I studied Chemistry, German, Mathematics and Physics. Aside from academia, I enjoy hiking, salsa dancing and reading murder mystery novels. Lockdown has also given me a chance to get in touch with my creative side - I have been trying my hand at calligraphy and paper crafts!

Availability: Evenings Mon-Fri, 6 pm - 8 pm

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I am available to tutor primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level pupils. I will work with the tutee to identify particular areas where knowledge and understanding can be improved and we will explore those together through a variety of methods, including worked examples, interactive games and quizzes. Learning should be fun as well as informative!

I am passionate about Chemistry and passing on my knowledge to budding scientists. At the age of 15, I gained my first taste of formal teaching during my two-week-long work experience at an infant school. During my time there, I guided children’s reading sessions and played educational games with the pupils. More recently, I have led workshops for undergraduate students covering first year university chemistry content, such as SN1 and SN2 reaction pathways, thereby providing them with a firm foundation to their further training. I also supervised Master`s students in the laboratory, teaching them the practice and theory behind various methods, for example NMR spectroscopy, ensuring that they passed their practical project modules.

In my tutoring sessions, I will apply the skills and knowledge that I have developed over the years, implementing creative and engaging teaching methods and providing a stable learning environment.
