Information about Edmund

Edmund studied Health and Population at The LSE (London School of Economics) and Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield. He won the Liverpool Hope prize for best performing student teacher across all subjects upon completion of his teaching qualification (PGCE) at Liverpool Hope University. Since then, Edmund has worked in inner city schools in both Liverpool and London teaching IB, A-level and GCSE Biology as well as KS3 Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Edmund was joint 2nd in charge of his London school science department (consisting of 12 teachers) and has worked as a KS3 curriculum coordinator. Edmund has, additionally, over the years complemented his classroom teaching by individual one-to-one tuition.

Throughout his time as a teacher Edmund has helped students from some of the most disadvantaged boroughs in the country make the progress they need to advance to university studies, including to many Russell Group universities. Edmund knows how to help students develop their potential and confidence in their science studies, no matter what is going on outside of lessons. His tested behaviour management skills ensure pupils remain engaged and focused in his tutorial sessions. During the recent Covid pandemic, Edmund spent many months teaching classes of up to 30 students online and has developed highly effective methods for ensuring progress through online learning.

In his spare time Edmund enjoys working on climate change projects with students and, most recently, on a set of vaccination information resources for schools which were distributed worldwide and were reported on by local and national newspapers.

Availability: I am available during the day time as well as in the evenings.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: -PGCE and full QTS.
-Wide-ranging tutoring experience, including A-level, IB, BTEC Physics, GCSE, KS3 and KS2.
-Half a decade’s UK classroom teaching experience in London and Liverpool, teaching ages 11-18 within multiple syllabuses and working at a coordinator level in my science department.
-Substantial experience tutoring ESL students (English as a second language).

During my years of teaching I have identified certain areas where students often struggle: for example, photosynthesis and respiration in A-level biology or thermodynamic concepts in BTEC physics. Consequently, I have developed a large resource of revision material tailored to address common misconceptions, especially for GCSE and A-level courses and am happy to run intensive sessions on such specific topics before key exams, as well as working more generally on exam technique and consolidation of knowledge.
