Rebecca is a versatile and accomplished freelance trumpet player, based in London. Rebecca has performed with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, with the LSO Discovery programme, at the BBC Proms with The Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music, the London Sinfonietta Academy, side-by-side with the Academy of Ancient Music, on both the Britten-Pears brass and orchestral courses. She has also appeared as principal trumpet in Mahler’s Symphony no. 5 at the Barbican with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Rebecca recently graduated with a first class Master of Arts degree from the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied as a scholar under the tutelage of Mark David, Gareth Small, Bob Farley, Paul Beniston and Will O’Sullivan. During her studies she participated in masterclasses with Reinhold Friedrich, Huw Morgan, Jeroen Berwaerts, Thomas Hooten, members of Septura, and performed under the baton of Edward Gardner, John Wilson, Marin Alsop and Sir Mark Elder. Prior to this, she also studied as a scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree.
Alongside performing, Rebecca holds a passion for teaching brass, harp, piano, music theory and aural. She currently works full-time at St Albans High School for Girls as the Graduate Musician and teaches privately at weekends. She was recently awarded a teaching diploma, the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music.
Rebecca is extremely grateful to have been supported by Help Musicians UK, Countess of Munster Musical Trust, The Wolfson Foundation and The Craxton Memorial Trust.
Availability: Usually evenings and weekends, though am flexible around you!
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been teaching for 6+ years and have experience teaching all ages and abilities. Usually I travel to my students` houses though we can also arrange to meet somewhere else for our lessons. I have experience entering pupils for exams (with 100% success rate), but will customise our lessons to whatever suits the student whether this is taking the `exam-route` or not. I also have an up-to-date DBS certificate, and have recently completed the LRAM teaching licentiate.
I am have taught at or in collaboration with St Albans High School for Girls, Music Education Islington and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Fireworks Music School and London Music Centre.
I believe that music can be a fun way to relax whilst also being challenging and rewarding. Working towards the `next grade` is not always the right way to go for some, whilst for others it may be more useful. Learning music can be a hugely different experience, and I strive to accommodate this through my teaching.
