Information about John
I am a qualified teacher with experience in both Primary and Secondary schools. I have delivered tailored one-to-one and small-group tuition sessions to Year 5 and 6 children in Maths and Literacy, helping children bridge learning gaps. I have also delivered targeted literacy, reading comprehension, and mathematics interventions to support students in preparation for their SATs.
Outside the classroom, I am an education and technology writer and have written for leading UK Education and Early Years magazines. I run groups to support trainee teachers with their Masters coursework, and over the last 20 years have supported countless students with meeting the requirements of their degree essays.

Experience: I have a BA (Hons) degree in English, History, and Education, and I`m a qualified teacher. Prior to teaching, I worked in IT for 15+ years, and during that time I managed the ICT for a large school for children with special educational needs.
Since qualifying, I have taught Years 3-6 across the National Curriculum, including English, Maths, History, Geography, Music, Computing, and PE. I have also taught Computing to children in years 7-11. My most recent experience was as a school-based tutor, supporting individual Key Stage 2 children with Maths and English to help fill gaps caused by Covid.
I have worked extensively with children with dyslexia and other barriers to learning. I`m patient and sensitive to each child`s unique learning style. Over the course of my experience working with children in large classes, small groups, and individually, I have found that developing a positive relationship with the child is absolutely paramount. I pride myself on being able to make children feel at ease, and to make their learning fun and engaging.
