Information about Devon

I have always loved learning, and love the problem solving element of maths: thinking a question is difficult and then working through to find an answer always feels like such an achievement, no matter how small the problem. When teaching and supporting students I enjoy building their confidence and helping them to find solutions, so that they can also have that eureka moment! I believe it is important to develop a good rapport with students so that we can build trust between us and create an environment where it is ok to get things wrong or not understand.

I am a friendly and bubbly person who deeply cares about making an impact. It is so important for children to feel valued and feel like they can succeed, so they can throw themselves into future opportunities without worrying about the fear of failure.

Availability: Monday to Friday 12:30pm - 8pm

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Throughout my PhD I have tutored with The Brilliant Club, teaching secondary school students in maths, as well as designing and delivering a course to year 9 students about how we can use statistics to predict the weather.

I have previously worked as an LSA (learning support assistant) in a secondary school, working with all ages across the curriculum, particularly helping those who struggled to access the learning. As an LSA I taught 1-1 sessions with students in maths, taught small group maths classes for those who could not cope in a larger class and also supported students in their usual lessons. I worked in the SEN department, so have worked with students with educational needs and disabilities.

I have also privately tutored students in year 8, year 11, year 12 and undergraduate in maths.
