Information about Robert
Firstly many thanks for taking the time to look at my profile.
I believe in pupil based learning where I look at the needs of the student and work with them to develop their confidence in maths. If they are struggling to understand and progress then I believe it is generally down a few basic areas such as
1. Lack of confidence;
2. Missing the basic skills;
3. Understanding and application of maths skills.
My aim is to work with the student to strengthen their maths skills to enable them to develop as a mathematician, thus building their confidence and improving. This will lead to improving their overall life skills and improve their assessment results when needed.
I see a Tutors job as having a number of different roles
1: supporting the work / curriculum being taught in school
2: assisting with homework
3: building confidence in maths
4: teaching new / different curriculum to what is being taught in school.( generally I do this when they are confident with the school curriculum or school is doing other things).
5. Preparing for assessments
6. Developing exam technique to gain more marks.
7. Working with the students to ensure they reach their full potential.
I have been a teacher since 1990 teaching Maths, ICT and D&T. I have taught in the secondary sector. For 10 years I worked in a medical Pupil Referral Unit, much of my work was in pupils homes as they were too ill to be taught in school. I also have a vast experience of working with pupils who have both physical and psychological medical needs. I specialize in working with GCSE students who need support in going from level 2/3 to a solid pass.
Over the past few years I have been working with a student who did the AQA FURTHER MATHS GCSE LEVEL 2 in Y10. In year 11 this student gained a Gold in the 1st maths challenge and has sat the 2nd maths challenge.
I have been tutoring now for a couple of years the benefits that I have seen to the students are as follows; moving up sets, all of my students who have sat GCSE have passe bar 1 student and the major one being a boost in confidence.
As it is a private arrangement we are free to work out what is best for you and the student.
