Information about Shivaangee

I graduated from Oxford University and am friendly and approachable, with a logical, thorough and systematic tutoring approach. I`m patient with students and enjoy finding ways of breaking down difficulty until we are both on the same page.

JAPANESE:
Over these last 10 years, I have studied Japanese in various environments both in Japan and the UK, such as in school, college, at Oxford University, in a Japanese host family, with Japanese flatmates, and while working in Japan. As a result, my purpose in studying the language has also evolved with time, from studying for exams, to studying to read novels, to make speeches, to study linguistics, to make friends, to debate, to conduct interviews, to write academic papers and to teach dance. This continuous exposure makes me very empathetic to the challenges that come with learning and practising Japanese. I do believe Japanese is a tough language, but I don’t think it has to be particularly intimidating. Like any other language, once the complexities are systematically broken down, then it is just a matter of practice and familiarity.

Availability: I have a flexible schedule, and open to weekdays and weekends, evenings and daytime. Please get in touch and we can find a mutually convenient time.

Willing to travel: 30 miles

Experience: I have extensive experience teaching a variety of subjects, such as Geography and Economics (one-to-one tuition for GCSE and A-Level), dance (one-to-one tuition for adults and group classes for adults), yoga (group sessions for mixed ages) and sport (including a Community Sports Leadership Award qualification). This broad range of experience has given me a set of fundamental teaching principles that are applicable across all disciplines. It includes good practice, such as lesson / content planning, quizzing and reflective learning, in addition to skills, such as listening, problem solving and the number one most important skill of all, communication!

I have experience teaching Japanese at varying levels from beginners to advanced. This includes running courses for groups of students at my old secondary school, and consequently being responsible for the content, teaching style, and concluding presentations, and also individual mentoring that I participated in at university-level with juniors and peers.
