Information about Thembi
I have a PhD from London University`s School of Oriental and African Studies, and also I am a trained NCTJ journalist with over 24 years experience, including working for the BBC World Service Radio, and BBC documentaries. I am a trained teacher, and have taught at London, Birkbeck and Sussex Universities.
I have home tutored for many years, and also currently lecture at Sussex University in Global Studies, which includes philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, politics, media studies, plus of course a firm grasp of history, economics and international relations!
I really enjoy tutoring students at GSCE, A and degree level, and masters levels. Making work fun, highly interactive, and working to create imaginative and interesting critical learning environments. I strive to find ways to make the subjects relevant and to get the highest marks.
I have also mentored adult learner/ students with dyslexia and learning difficulties, and also enjoy finding collaborative creative solutions to empower students to enjoy learning, and fly through exams. I can offer advice on essay structuring, prioritising, time management, anxiety reduction, planning and exam techniques.
My interest in learning stems primarily from my home environment- my grandmother was a French professor, my mother a history/education lecturer, my step father an economics professor, and I hava a doctorate.
Availability: Willing to work round student`s availability with discussions, and my own lecturing timetable. Happy to work in small groups, and travel to students` home with discussion. CRB checked.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: ten years working in universities as a lecturer, for London, Birkbeck, South Bank and Sussex Universities, on BA and MA courses. Happy to tutor A-level and GCSE students.
24 years working as a radio/tv/online reporter for various national media, most of it for the BBC.

Thembi is professional in all matters with communication and arrangements. She is dedicated to getting the best out of a student and I feel she has challenged my daughter to look at a subject from different perspectives.
