Good Afternoon,

my name is Michael and I am passionate about my language. I am German and came to the UK in 1998 after I qualified as management accountant. Since then, I passed the exam in Oxford Proficiency in English and have been teaching German to friends and adults by reading books out loud, translating them and teaching grammar, structure, cultural content and meaning. I also taught business German for beginners.

My accounting qualification and financial background have always been an invaluable benefit to the international companies which had subsidiaries in German speaking countries. I am passionate to pass on my knowledge of my native language and German culture to my students to help them to achieve their goals, to get a head-start in immigrating to a German speaking country or for their further studies and exams. I believe in building up a rapport with my students in an environment where my students can learn German in an relaxed and fun filled way.

I am an active member of a German speakers club to meet like-minded people who strive to improve their German language skills.

In the past, I was contacted by various recruitment agencies to take on tutoring jobs in companies due to my professional background and I also translated a website from English into German.

Availability: I am available from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Friday and Saturdays at agreed times.
I do home visits up to 10 miles from where I live as well as online tutoring.

Experience: While I worked as UK and German accountant for the last 22 years in the UK, I have been tutoring and translating. My students are adults and their main interest in the German language is to read and translate German literature and business language while learning German expressions, sentence structure and vocabulary. I encourage my students to talk freely in German and take away their "fear of getting it wrong" when speaking, reading or writing. In my profession as accountant, I helped international companies I worked for with the translations of accounting and legal documents and also helped to interpret and explain legal terms / jargon in meetings with superiors, tax advisors and in external audits.
In my spare time, I meet up with non-native German speakers in our German speakers club where I help the members and my friends to improve their German language through various activities like board games and discussions.
