Information about Benjamin
I graduated with First Class Honours in History from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge. I am now a freelance musician and part-time tutor.
I specialise in the early modern and modern periods, focusing on intellectual and religious movements, as well as the global exchange of materials and ideas. My prizewinning dissertation was entitled, `The role of music in encounters between Europeans and non-Europeans in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean, to c.1820.` In this I discussed the changing imperial role of musical performance in a previously overlooked zone of musical interchange.

Brilliant tutoring skills and wider participation and encouragement in deeper thinking skills and further reading. The books given to be read by my daughter were excellent choice. Thank you, Ben. Hoping my daughter will have some more lessons with Ben on the fall.

Benjamin has been an outstanding tutor, and interlocutor, to me in a range of historical subjects over the past year. He has a pleasing (and not at all pedagogical) style of tutoring, which helps the pupil to feel comfortable, and to get into a relaxed and reflexive frame of mind. In classes he always demonstrates an impressive range of historical knowledge and has a real knack for `thinking outside of the box`. He can provide many enlightening insights which make studying the subject all the more worthwhile. I can think of no better person for any budding history student to have as a mentor.
