UPDATE DUE TO COVID-19

I am a friendly, experienced Head of English with outstanding results.

After becoming a first time mum in the summer of 2018, I now work part-time at MET (Northbrook) college as an English Lecturer, near to my home in Worthing. Our learning has now moved to solely online until September. As a result, I have a wealth of resources and experience of tutoring online, as well as face to face.

I fully appreciate that the local schools are doing the best that they can, but as a homeschooler to an 8-year-old stepson, I am also very aware of the challenges that parents are facing in these unprecedented times, not to mention how difficult it is for our children.

I, like you, appreciate more than ever, the benefits of face-to-face learning and really believe that live online lessons help to bridge the gap between the tasks set by school and the experience our children would usually be having in the classroom. Rest assured, that if your child has 1:1 online tuition with me they will start to feel more confident about their English study again and hopefully develop a love of learning again.

To get your child to where they want to be in English, I work closely with the school to deliver a "heads up" programme. They will have pre-teaching sessions: I will build their confidence in a topic before they actually visit the topic in school so that they can bound into the classroom feeling like an expert!

If you feel your child would benefit from this style of friendly, online learning to boost their confidence, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes and stay safe.

Lauren

************** MESSAGE FOR PARENTS OF GCSE STUDENTS ******************

Prior to the announcement that the GCSEs this year were cancelled, my 1:1 tuition programme has always been tightly focused on ensuring my students gain a 4+ at GCSE English Language and I currently have a 100% pass rate.

If you are looking ahead to summer 2021 GCSE examinations, please read below for what your child can expect from GCSE tuition with me.

Best wishes
Lauren

GCSE Tuition

Your first GCSE session will be a gentle and friendly welcome, in which we focus on identifying your existing areas of strength and those areas that require support. This helps me to create a bespoke programme of study tailored to your individual needs. It will also help us measure your progress over time, build your confidence and ensures a tightly focused study on your gaps in knowledge.

Each week you will complete exam skills training, practise timed exam questions and receive live feedback focused on how you could improve your answer. We look closely at the examiner marking grid for each question, unpicking the skills to ensure that we are working towards a top level response. Each session ends with improvement and reflection time, ensuring that the newly learnt skills become embedded.

Success stories from Academic Year 2018-2019:

Student 1 was a boarder at Steyning Grammar who came to me in December 2018, having achieved a 1+ in his English Language mock exam at school. After two hours per week on my tuition programme, he achieved a level 6 in his June 2019 exams.

Student 2, a student at Durrington High, also came to me in December 2018 with a disappointing set of mock results. He had achieved a 1 in English Language. After just one hour a week on my tuition programme, he achieved a level 5.

Student 3 joined me in January 2019 and was to be entirely home-schooled. She had not been in school for over a year. With three hours a week on my tuition programme she managed to sit both English Literature and Language GCSEs. She achieved a 6 in English Language and a 5 in English Literature.
