Information about Amrit

Qualified History Teacher (PGCE and QTS) with 5 years teaching experience:

I have greatly valued my time teaching so far and I would love the opportunity to contribute further to the education of students through tutoring whilst I complete a MA History at the University of Leicester.

I hold the belief and enthusiasm for History as a modern, relevant and thoroughly rewarding subject. With a background in delivering a balanced and differentiated curriculum for mixed ability classes at all key stages, I am well suited to tutor.

I have taken a leading role in the development of the KS3 and KS5 curriculums over the past five years. As a subject specialist I have developed my teaching greatly by taking leadership of developing the KS3 History curriculum. In my first year of teaching I was solely responsible for the planning and resourcing of all lessons, schemes of work, formal assessments and mark schemes for Year 7 being taught at the school for the first time. I have continued to have a large input in the continuing development of the KS3 History curriculum, including the creation of Year 7 mastery booklets being used across an entire Academy Trust. A task which I have greatly enjoyed and illustrates my dedication to contribute to the development of a rigorous History Curriculum.

Furthermore, I have also taken a large responsibility in independently planning the A level ‘Democracy and Nazism’ course. By taking ownership for the A level course I have developed all lessons and schemes of assessment from scratch, therefore have comprehensive experience of both planning and teaching History A level at a high standard.

I have continued to help with the development of the A level course through collaborative planning for the NEA component. By creating and taking ownership of a question on the progress of women I also have extensive knowledge of the requirements of this element of the course, having led many students through the course of this independent project over the last three of years.

Having had a fundamental role in the creation of these courses at my College I have a strong understanding of the AQA A-Level course. This is evident in the results my classes have received with 19/57 achieving A*-A through formal examinations in 2019, which was a significant jump on the year before. (4% of students 2018 to 33% 2019), furthermore I contributed to a 14% jump upwards on A* to B from 43.9% to 57.9% in the same year. (Due to Lockdown the last two years have not resulted in formal examinations).

I can not only teach content, but showcase model answers, give individual feedback on written work, talk through mark schemes, provide NEA and EPQ essay feedback and teach essay writing skills for both GCSE and A level.
