Hi, my name is Lisa. I am a fully qualified maths teacher with more than 10 years’ experience of teaching maths in secondary schools in the UK and I am delighted to be able to offer online tutoring. As I am a maths specialist, I have excellent subject knowledge but my many years’ experience of teaching maths has taught me to understand how daunting the subject is for some children. I am very keen to help students understand and enjoy maths and to help make it more accessible. I provide a patient, calm and supportive approach and boost children’s confidence by ensuring that their skills and knowledge are secure before moving on. I understand that some children will have misconceptions and will hit stumbling blocks. I help students overcome them by showing them how to break down problems into more manageable tasks. I aim to build a positive and collaborative environment as I believe that this is how learning best takes place.
I provide well planned, structured lessons that are specifically designed for each individual. I create my own resources that are tailored to each student’s particular needs and use a range of methods to provide the best help and to make the sessions engaging and fun. I have extensive experience of providing revision masterclasses at GCSE to boost confidence, ability and grades. I regularly use past exam questions working through clear, model answers with the student.
Maths is an interesting and fascinating subject. I mean, isn’t it amazing how the arrangement of leaves on a stem, or the seeds of a sunflower or the shape of a curled shell obey the Fibonacci sequence? This is the sequence of numbers where the next number is found by adding up the 2 numbers before it so 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,… I am also intrigued about the complex mathematical calculations that have been used to put man in space! I take great pleasure in teaching and inspiring others of all ages and abilities. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone struggle with a concept but then watching ‘the penny drop’.

Experience: I have successfully taught maths in school to students of all ages and abilities from 11 to 18 years. During my career I have been the assistant to the lead maths teacher and have been responsible for the delivery of maths at key stage 3 and ‘A’ level. I am dedicated to raising achievement of learners at all key stages and I strive to ensure that every student maximises their potential. I also offer numeracy lessons to adult learners focussing on solving real life maths problems.
I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in mathematics from the University of Birmingham and a Business Studies 2:1 degree from the University of North London.
