Information about Ellie
I am a Chemistry tutor with over 1500 hours of tutoring experience over the last five years, for GCSE and A Level.
My PhD was in Sustainabile Chemistry from the University of Bath. I was making a fuel cell powered by enzymes that would clean chemical waste streams. I really enjoyed helping students with their projects too, and working in the student labs. I have a deep appreciation for the world around us and hope to inspire a passion for green energy in my students.
Since becoming Dr Ellie, I moved home to Devon after my daughter was born, and began tutoring Chemistry part time. It has become a real passion, I love working with young people and seeing their confidence grow! Because of all the lovely feedback and encouragement I`ve received over the years (lots of "I wish you were my teacher") I have decided to begin my PGCE in Chemistry in September 2018, to bring my love for science to the masses and further my passion for teaching!
I cater for people of all different standards and learning styles, and always try to explain things as simply as possible so you have a deep understanding of what chemistry is all about, which helps greatly with the new style of exam.
Please ask me if you have any questions, I look forward to hearing from you.
Ellie
Availability: I am available over the summer holidays during the week, and weeknights. I work from home in Ashburton.
Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a session. If this is not possible I may need to charge for the lesson.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: Over the last five years I have tutored around 50 students in Chemistry including GCSE, AS and A Level.
I have been given feedback that I am a calm, kind and patient tutor but since becoming a full-time mother I have learned the importance of play in our learning too. Learning facts and memorising definitions has short term value, but it does not give us real knowledge or understanding of our subject. Everyone has the potential to understand Chemistry, as we are it, we live in it, and interact with it every day! I like to provide a strong foundation of understanding which will last beyond your last exam.
Our lessons will be mostly student-led to encourage confidence in your own ability to work on the areas you find most difficult. We will go through these areas together, and I can then suggest practice questions for you to complete in order to consolidate your understanding between sessions.

My son found the support from his tutor leading up to his AS level Chemistry very helpful and gave him an opportunity to go through areas he didn`t understand
