July 2016 to date
Self-employed tutor covering mainly Science and Maths. This work has enabled me to have exposure to a wider variety of SEN learners at KS3 and 4, covering GCSE and Foundation level, yet also tutoring learners who wished to achieve higher grades at GCSE. Due to the changes in the curriculum for both subjects I was required to research and a develop my own resources. I have worked with a variety of schools, both selective and non-selective in the broader East Kent area. Most learners I encountered were looked after children.
2012 July 2016 Head of Science, Rivermead Specialist Community School
During my time at Rivermead, which specialises in teaching learners of with varying degrees of EHCPs related to the Autistic spectrum plus their individual comorbidities, I raised the standard of Science teaching within the school, implementing the changes required to meet exam bard requirements for KS4 learners. I reorganised the laboratory into a more suitable environment for learners with SEN needs. I liaised with parents and carers in my role as a subject leader and form tutor and ran EHCP and PEP meetings. I completed my final thesis for my MA in Education focusing on teaching Scientific vocabulary to SEN learners. Towards the end of my employment at Rivermead I was concerned that learners at KS3 were not adequately being prepared for the new 1-9 curriculum and as such decided to gain greater experience as a self-employed tutor.

My responsibilities involved planning and delivering all three Science subjects with the three main exam boards, the running of a vertical tutor group with the subsequent liaison with parents and parents evenings. I was part of an entrepreneurial group that introduced a learning platform VLE so that learners were able to study at home plus work using up to date technology in the classroom. This was also rolled over to the partner school Whitstable technology school with my assistance.
