Hello! I`m Bex and I`m a qualified teacher, private tutor, mentor and educational progress coach. I`m here to help you get the best out of yourself and guide you to do well.

My main subject areas are German, Portuguese, English literature and language, English as a Foreign Language, Film and Media Studies, Study Skills, Primary Maths and English, and 11+. However, I am also very committed to Special Needs teaching and so please get in touch if you require this. I specialise in dyslexia coaching.

I have a DBS check and I am on the Update Service which renews yearly. I also have numerous outstanding reviews online, which you will find if you search online.

Availability: I tutor in the daytime, afternoons and evenings. Demand has increased a lot recently and I am always almost fully-booked. When slots become free, I get booked up very fast, so please get in touch if you have any questions! I now only teach online and from my home (which is on the border between Westcliff-on-Sea and Southend).

I also have daytime slots, so please enquire if none of these suit you. I also tutor home-schooled students and am happy to offer a special deal if you book multiple sessions a week with me.

Experience: I have 13 years` experience teaching in the Primary, Secondary, FE and HE (University) sectors and have tutored both adults and children in several countries (the UK, Ireland, Brazil, China and Austria). I`m an Associate Member of the Higher Education Academy and have previously taught at The University of Nottingham and Maynooth University in Ireland. I am currently a lecturer for the WEA.

I`m also an educational progress coach and a mentor, so if you require mentoring or coaching, I could also provide that. I have a Certificate in Personal Coaching and have coached and mentored numerous people to achieve their goals. I am also now finishing an Accredited Diploma in Transformational Coaching with Animas School of Coaching. So if you are looking for life coaching, I offer this too.

Before I became a full-time tutor and WEA lecturer, I was a secondary school teacher. In 2017 (my final year as a full-time teacher), I had 100% A*-C GCSE pass rate and most students getting one (sometimes two) grades higher than their target grade! In a recent teaching observation, I was graded as an outstanding teacher for my Film Studies and History lecturing with the WEA, as well.

My teaching style is very varied and creative. I like to ask students questions to see if they know the answers and then give them strategies to try to work out the answers and guide them to think for themselves to become independent learners. With the introduction of the new GCSE, being able to think for yourself and develop critical thinking skills early is a real advantage. I`m friendly and approachable and always willing to answer any questions you might have. Lots of my tutees find colour helps them remember things, so I often get students to colour-code, label and draw to help them to remember the information.

At GCSE level, for German and English / English Literature, I provide guided revision sessions that are targeted to the texts or topics you request. If you are unsure of the content you require, you can complete a past paper in test conditions, so that I may assess the level you are working at. We also do walk-throughs of GCSE 9-1 past papers and you have the chance to complete regular exam-style homework questions.
