Experience: What will tutor sessions look like?
In the first session, I use the time to get to know the student. I look at the book work that has been completed and any past papers and identify areas of weakness where I can add value and help your child make rapid progress. I use the session to discuss where the student feels they are most struggling or needs most assistance. I use any remaining time to look at general exam techniques.
All subsequent sessions will involve either direction from the student (if there is a topic which needs be explained through for example) or with me driving the direction of sessions with where I feel we need to improve. For example, if extended questions and exam technique are a problem we spend the session embedding revision and technique to complete a `model` full mark answer.
I often provide exam questions (either data response or extended questions) to the student to complete for a mini homework, which I will then mark at home before the next session and feedback the following lesson to provide a continual learning loop to speed up and refine examination technique.
