Information about Smriti
I am an enthusiastic, hardworking and reliable individual, studied for PGCE (Maths) with QTS at Sheffield Hallam University. I work in a secondary school teaching Maths to pupils of years 7-11 covering all ability range. I have more than 10 years of school teaching experience. I believe that for successful tutoring, I possess good communication skills, the ability to adapt the lesson as per prior knowledge of individual pupil and effective mentoring skills. I encourage and motivate pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to study by making it relevant to real-life situations.
I can offer a personalised learning programme for every individual pupil bridging the gap in learning. I understand that building a good rapport, breaking the ice in relations is very important to create and maintain a positive learning environment. I have the ability to teach a particular concept in a variety of different ways, showing patience while delivering the lesson, actively listening to a pupils concern and providing my subject knowledge expertise to make them understand difficult concepts.
I can use different colours, pictures, videos, highlighters to impart information which makes my online classroom interactive and engaging for students, encouraging them to type, draw and annotate, directly responding to learning prompts. This makes learning more memorable for my students.
I have gained an understanding of Rosenshines principles of instruction and cognitive load theory, on how to scaffold learning by breaking the new information into chunks, providing worked examples and guided practice to enable the learners to follow new concepts without experiencing cognitive overload.
I use scaffolding techniques such as using partially completed examples to focus the pupils attention on the specific steps. Creating a positive environment where making mistakes and learning from them and the need for effort and perseverance are part of the daily routine.
I believe in regular and purposeful retrieval practice of what has previously been taught to help consolidate the material and let pupils remember what they have learned. I aim to build spaced practise as an integral part of my teaching style, to ensure pupils have repeated opportunities to practise, with my appropriate guidance and support.
I explicitly teach metacognitive strategies to learners on how to plan, monitor and evaluate their performance to support independence and academic success.

We actually didnt get to meet due to the schools/children going into lock down .How ever she had plans to help my son which sounded very promising and structured to his needs. My son will be getting predictable grades so I will be in touch again if his grade is insufficient .
