Hello everybody,

My name is Gur I`m A Hebrew tutor, a theatre and performance maker based in London since July 2014.

I was born in Israel in 1986 to a Jewish family of Ashkenazi descent. I grew up in the outskirts of Tel- Aviv. I attended the prestigious art school Thelma-Yellin followed by the Yoram Lowenstein Acting Studio where I graduated in 2009. I completed a Masters degree in Performance at Goldsmiths University of London in 2016 with distinction. Alongside tutoring, I have been presenting my work in different theatre-venues around the UK.

I teach regularly at WLS (West London Synagogue) young teens on their way to adulthood. As well as Hebrew teaching, I teach them reformed Jewish principals through various topics and while engaging them in different discussions.
Additionally, I run there, together with Avihud Tidhar, an acting workshop inspired by Jewish
culture for adults.

I also teach Hebrew at Cactus Worldwide. In my lessons, I try to go methodically through grammatical rules as well as syntax in Hebrew. In the process, I explain the root of certain ideas and words in Hebrew or I link it to Jewish and Isreali cultural references. From biblical ones to pop-culture.

I have always had a great respect for languages, especially Hebrew. My work as an actor has been enhanced by my command of Hebrew and by engaging with its highly challenging texts. I have a thorough knowledge of early and modern Jewish history. My interests in the arts and culture provide opportunities to continue learning. Hebrew tutoring provides me with a connection to my roots through two of the most important elements of my life: words and language.

I am hard working and I believe in contributing to my community. For two years I have been donating my time to teach theatre at a religious kindergarten in Tel-Aviv. in 2015, I have taught acting as a volunteer at the CEN8 Organisation in New Cross.

My method for tutoring depends on the student, however, my main belief is that learning a language is a craft, it requires practice and passion, hence to intrigue my students I bring a different kind of reading material and music that is part of the Israeli culture.

There are several books which I use as my main guidance, and so, the exercises I bring are a combination of ones from the books with exercises and games I come up with.
