Information about Sean

I am a senior Latin and Greek tutor, OCR and CIE A-Level examiner, and published academic with over 30 years’ experience. I currently teach at a London college and have written more than 40 books, including Latin readers and exam-focused commentaries.

My students have won scholarships and academic awards at 11+, 13+, and 16+ entry to Eton, Westminster, Winchester, Harrow, and other leading schools. I specialise in Common Entrance and scholarship preparation, as well as GCSE, A-Level, and Oxbridge entry support.

I offer high-quality online tuition to students in the UK and internationally. My teaching is structured, rigorous, and tailored to each student, supported by a large bank of custom-built grammar and vocabulary tests and the use of carefully selected digital tools to reinforce progress between lessons.

Availability: I work with students across time zones, including the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia. As I maintain a limited number of regular pupils, I recommend early contact to discuss availability.

I offer a free initial consultation to assess your goals and advise on a suitable programme of study. Between lessons, students have access to structured materials, including custom grammar and vocabulary tests, allowing for continued progress and consolidation.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I teach Latin and Greek from beginner to advanced level, with particular expertise in Common Entrance and scholarship preparation, including the Eton King’s Scholarship and Westminster Challenge. My students range from 10-year-olds preparing for 11+ entry to university undergraduates and adult learners.

My teaching focuses on two complementary areas. First, I develop exam technique through the systematic use of past papers, model answers, and guided walkthroughs. Secondly, I build language mastery, with an emphasis on grammar, vocabulary, and precise translation.

This work is supported by a large bank of custom-built grammar and vocabulary tests, together with carefully selected digital tools, allowing for targeted practice and steady progress between lessons.
