I have been teaching since 1992. I am an examiner in History and in Latin for the OCR Board and Cambridge International Examinations. My first degree was from the University of York, and I have a PhD from Middlesex University.

I am the author of around forty books and a valued member of staff at the institution where I am employed.

Experience: I teach Greek and Latin. I teach these to beginners and to advanced students. I have long experience of teaching them to GCSE and A-Level. I also specialise in getting students through the Common Entrance Examination. I have helped students to pass the King`s Scholarship for Eton, and the Westminster Challenge, and the Harrow Entrance Examination.

My general approach to teaching is via the examination papers and general reading. The first is critical to success. You need to know in advance what the examiners want and how best to give it to them. The second is barely less critical. Greek and Latin are complex, rule-bound languages. You get over the complexity and you internalise the rules by reading widely in both adapted and original texts. I will also encourage you to translate from English into the relevant language, For some examinations, this is a key skill. Even otherwise, being able to translate both ways does everything short of guarantee a good pass. And I will at least encourage you to learn something about the history and civilisation of the Ancient World.
