Experience: It has been a privilege seeing students, both with ASD and without, from primary to secondary school make progress for 6 years running.
Working under supervision of the Headteacher, Deputy heads as well as other teachers and support staff from Year 2 to Year 9, helped me to gain much experience with children learning at a different pace. Witnessing each of their individual progress truly motivated me to carry on giving my best. For example, one of them could not follow while the teacher read books out loud. Therefore, I summarised the story in a simpler language as the teacher read along or prior to the lesson on a white board and got her to draw it as she was a visual learner. We would then go through the words the child was stuck on. By the end of Year 6, with the help of other support staff, she showed more understanding During her comprehension tests.
I have also worked one to one with an adult student who wanted to further his french grammar.
