Information about David

A biomedical science graduate with 2 years of experience tutoring biology and chemistry (GCSE & A-level), as well as the biosciences. Before commencing my next chapter, I want to use my time to explore my passion for teaching. I aim to empower my students to become independent, effective, and perhaps most importantly, passionate, learners who will succeed in whatever they choose to do next. If this sounds like what you would like to achieve, please contact me so we can get started! :)

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I recently graduated with a first-class degree in biomedical science, a life science course involving the application of the basic medical sciences to support effective healthcare and enhance research. Studying biomedical science has allowed me to develop a firm grounding in biology, chemistry, the basic medical sciences, critical scientific writing, and fundamental research skills. This is best demonstrated by my final year results, in which I obtained an average of 80% overall, the highest score in my final year biochemistry module, and a prize in immunology. These results clearly show I have a genuine enthusiasm for science and knowledge of what it takes to succeed in exams: qualities I am excited to pass onto my students.

Since graduating in 2018, I have provided 1:1 coursework feedback sessions (including dissertations) and exam tutorials to several undergraduate bioscience students, as well as AS-level and GCSE chemistry tuition across a range of exam boards. I also have experience in preparing students to sit the UCAT examination (formerly UKCAT), editing personal statements, providing mock interviews, and successfully guiding students to achieving a place at medical school.

My services are tailored to the individual student`s needs and personalised to meet the goals set at each session. Initially, I tend to focus on the student’s weaknesses, breaking down complex topics to build their confidence, maximise improvements in grades from day one, and through their hard work and perseverance, turning these weaknesses into strengths. Far from just teaching facts, my teaching style provides the understanding students need to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar situations and solve problems through critical thinking.

I will also provide supplementary resources such as summary notes, customised practice questions, and timed mock exams to reinforce their knowledge and understanding, whilst honing exam technique. As success in exams is determined by applying both good subject knowledge and exam technique, this system of learning will inspire confidence, a passion for learning, and ultimately, the tools students need to succeed in their exams.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions or book a free meeting, so we can get to know each other and discuss what I can help with.

I`ve been receiving tutoring from David to help me with my remote learning Access to HE course in biochemistry. David is very patient and great at using different ways of explaining topics to ensure I understand. He takes the time to plan the lessons to suit the modules and assessment criteria I am working towards, which is followed up by helpful notes from the session for reference. The lessons are focused, enjoyable and just the extra support I need in my studies. Thanks David! :)
