Information about Leah

I am a DPhil student, studying early modern literature at Balliol College Oxford. I also studied my degree in English Language and Literature at Hertford College Oxford, and my Masters in early modern literature at King`s College London. I am passionate about getting students into texts by helping them to develop their close analysis leading to more sophisticated and detailed analysis of texts. I also adopt an inter-disciplinary approach to study, using art, music and film to make texts come to life.

Availability: I am generally free most evenings, although this sometimes changes due to rehearsal commitments and evening seminars .

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I worked as an English teacher at Notting Hill and Ealing High School where I taught classes from Year 7 to Sixth Form. I have also had classroom experience at the Debate Chamber Summer School where I provide school children with a taste of university seminars, and during my time at KCL where I worked as a Widening Participation Assistant during the Shakespeare 400 Festival, helping deliver workshops for the Schools` Sonnet Competition and workshops on Shakespeare and performance.

I have worked as a private tutor for four years. I`ve advised sixth formers on university and Oxbridge application, helping them with their interview technique, and working with them to hone their practical criticism for the ELAT as well as their A Level work. I have helped prepare GCSE students, and have worked with Key Stage Three pupils on close analysis and grammar skills. I also enjoy helping children of all ages strengthen and tighten their academic writing.
