Information about Ellen
About me first and about my tutoring style below:
In 2016 I graduated from Oxford University with a BA in English Language and Literature, followed by MA Medieval and Renaissance Studies at UCL, in which I achieved a distinction and a place on the Dean`s List.
My dissertation, "Amateur Theatre in Early Modern England", will be published in an academic journal this year.
Before this I attended Westminster School, achieving D1 (Pre-U equivalent to above A*) in pre-U English, A* in A Level History, and As in Philosophy and Theology, and Theatre Studies.
In 2018 I was awarded the prestigious Queen Mother Scholarship by Middle Temple (one of the four professional associations for barristers). I applied for this without the support of a university or law school. I deferred the scholarship for a few years (so am not qualified to tutor law, sorry!) to work for a human rights charity and to learn French.
**
I have excellent essay writing skills and proof-reading skills and am particularly good at close-reading, a vital skill for A Level, Pre U and University-level English. I am also experienced and trained in Oxbridge application support (interview prep, personal statements, college advice) in a variety of humanities subjects.
I try to complement and enhance what school/university teachers are doing - in addition to better grades I always hope to enrich the student`s broader enjoyment and understanding of the subject.
Availability: My timings are highly flexible - I am happy to discuss.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have worked as a freelance tutor as well as for the social enterprise Oxbridge Interviews, which provides training in conducting mock interviews and giving personal statement feedback. I offered weekly interview prep support to a student who achieved a place to study English at Oxford and also English Literature GCSE for a student who was predicted a B but achieved an A.
