Information about Allison
I am over the moon and so proud of how hard my students have worked this last year. My student success rate of passing (with a higher than expected grade) is 100% in both Language and Literature; specialising in low to middle attainers. My 11 Plus students were also very successful all getting the schools they desired.
A bit about me...I have over 23 years of classroom teaching experience in both primary school and high school- with a specialty in English Language and Literature. I am a behavioural psychotherapist and have a Master of Science in Mild to Moderate Special Education as well as a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am reliable, upbeat and positive and I understand the needs of students today.
My goal is to make my students comfortable with learning and trusting their inner abilities to do their best. I am respectful, patient and understand that each student has different needs in learning.
I have earned my teaching credentials and QTS status with outstanding results in two countries and I am well versed in teaching English; specialising in secondary school GCSE English. I have worked with a plethora of GCSE students- several being SEN as well as English as a second language.
In the USA, I was a Mild-Moderate Special Education teacher for students aged 5-18. I assessed SEN students-along with teaching English and Math to students that were diagnosed with Specific Learning Disabilities, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Aspergers, high functioning Autism, ADD, ADHD, Bi-Polar and students with mental health.
I hope to motivate, in a positive way. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions while fostering confidence in order to realise their full potential. I aim for my students to have a safe learning environment that they enjoy to be in.
Availability: My speciality is GCSE English. I specialise in mid to low ability learners. I also work with adult, college students that are retaking the GCSE exams. As a former high school English teacher and examiner, I teach to the AQA Language and literature GCSE exam board. I also teach to the Edexcel IGCSE.
I have built up a lovely repertoire of test prep from my years of teaching. My sessions include practise tests - a well prepared lesson, reflection, practice assessments and constructive marking- homework help, literature reading, writing techniques- reading analysis reading comprehension- writing skills- (writing to persuade, argue, informative, creative) grammar skills - spelling and more. I tailor all lessons towards the individual needs of each student.

Experience: My experience is vast..... Upon my arrival to England, my first teaching position included teaching students on behavioural contracts in the school behaviour unit, Years 7-11. Allison started in September with us and already has been a brilliant weekly support to my childs literacy needs. Lessons are focused on my childs gaps and areas of development. Allison brings lots of energy and encouragement. Allison recognises my childs achievements at each lesson and my child is always very happy afterwards. Weve been delighted with Allison.
