Information about Emma

I am an enthusiastic Maths tutor from near [contact detail removed] with many years of experience in teaching Years 7-11 (age 11-16) for Common Entrance/13+ and GCSE and Post 16/Adults for Functional Skills, both face-to-face and online. I am very familiar with the Maths curriculum for all exam boards and, together with my structured and tailor-made lessons, I can identify weak points and problem areas in a pupil`s learning to support them with learning Maths. I work on building a pupil`s confidence which significantly enhances their ability to learn. This in turn provides a solid base for good progression through the syllabus to reach exam standard.

Availability: I am generally available from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm during weekdays and 9.00 am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays depending on what lessons I have already booked up and this changes depending on whether there are GCSE exams coming up and at certain busy times during the academic year.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: My extensive Maths-teaching experience in the school classroom and using online platforms means I have a wide repertoire of tried and tested methods for keeping pupils in KS3 and KS4 and young people engaged and motivated, since I find them a most rewarding age group to teach. I am well versed in using the Tutorful Online Classroom which has many features to communicate and demonstrate maths techniques as one would be able to use face-to-face. I also teach Functional Skills, Maths (Levels 1 and 2), at a Youth Resource Centre in Sherborne and I have regular access to up-to-date information regarding Exam Board and syllabus changes as well as other support which is available to young people in my area.

Over the past 20+ years I have helped many young people and adults pass their exams and achieve their goals in order to continue with further education. Underlying this practical experience is an honours degree in Accounting and Finance and a foundation degree in Maths and this was followed by a career in finance and teaching. As a parent and teacher I have cross-curricular experience in assisting children with the Science subjects, (which I also teach to KS3), revision and preparation for tests and exams. I also understand and empathise with the concerns other parents have about their children`s well-being and education so really look forward to a rewarding journey of teaching and learning to help you or your child become successful and reach their goals.
