Information about Miriam

I am currently completing a life changing move to the Outer Hebrides. I am now therefore offering online tutorial sessions in English, English Literature and Biology. I graduated a couple of years ago with a Masters degree in Wildlife Conservation following on from a first class honours degree in Animal Behaviour. Previously I had spent two years completing a National Diploma in Animal Management, gaining highest marks. I have an in-depth knowledge of conservation, animal and human biology and plant ecology. I have a passion for wildlife and biology with practical experience in the field and laboratory to supplement my theoretical knowledge.

Whilst I have not formally studied english since my GCSEs, from my early years I have been an avid reader and have a deep interest in English Language and Literature. Throughout my university education I gained extensive skills in essay, report, short writing and presentation. I have always attained high marks for my writing assignments, even achieving 100% in one essay!

I have had some good results following my tutoring lessons; one student had gained a D three times in his GCSE English but after a fairly short series of tutorials he managed to attain a B. Other tutorial work I have carried out includes tutoring fellow students in their studies at university and guiding several older friends and relatives in computer and internet usage. Recently I also lectured at a Green Party conference on `the importance of bees as pollinators`.

I had some bad experiences at school which led me to dislike certain subjects. However, during my further education I had excellent teachers who renewed my interest in learning. Therefore, I now have an understanding of how to tailor learning to the subject and to the student. My aim would be to focus on the student`s requirements be it to pass a certain exam or just gain a greater understanding of the topic. I would then adjust the learning to this final aim but also ensure it was fun and varied.

Miriam was great. Very patient with my son who was a mature student aged 19 doing his GCSE English. He had failed twice abd then passed with a B with her Lessons were structured and Miriam was firm
But kind too. Perfect.
