Laura

I am a passionate chemistry PhD graduate from King`s College London with over 300 hours of university teaching experience in both a classroom and practical setting.

I hold a proven academic record with a First-Class Honours Masters degree in Chemistry and in my final year was awarded the Paul Holtz Prize for the top student in organic chemistry. I’m extremely passionate about my subject and am eager to help others to realise their potential within STEM related subjects.

Presenting at international conferences and writing research papers has equipped me with strong communication skills which have been further enhanced through my involvement in a public engagement event called PubHD. This entailed describing my research project to members of the public in a pub setting which gave me invaluable experience in communicating my research in a concise and easy to understand manner to a varied audience.

Outside of my PhD studies, my role as a Researcher in Residence at one of the country’s top Girls Day Schools enables me to pursue my passion of outreach to key stage three, GCSE and A level students. I also help students with university preparation to aid with their applications to STEM-related degrees.

Experience: I’ve been teaching and demonstrating to university level students for 3 years now, helping over 60 students in classroom and lab settings. At the initial consultation, we discuss your ability and what you’d like to gain from the tuition. From there, we devise an achievable plan which we discuss together in order to both have a clear vision on how to meet your goals.

By studying and working in both university and school settings, I understand what’s needed from the students to achieve excellent grades and am exposed to successful teaching strategies from fellow academics and teachers.
