Information about Jane
I have been teaching for over 30 years, and have worked as an examiner in a variety of roles for most of that time. My experiences in both writing exams and marking them have convinced me that exam technique is key to doing well: my experiences as a private tutor have convinced me that most teachers do not realise quite how crucial it can be!
My focus when I tutor is to build confidence by isolating problems and then helping the tutee to connect all the various facts (which they usually know) into a meaningful story. We work on building cross-connections between topics to deepen understanding. And I show them how to use past papers and markschemes online in order to consolidate their understanding and also learn how to focus in on the points that the examiner is looking for in an answer to a question.
Availability: Any time is currently possible and negotiable.

I wrote A level exam questions for AQA for about 15 years, marked for AQA and University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate during the same period, and have been marking GCSEs for almost 10 years. I have also written revision material for the BBC Bitesize and Kerboodle (Oxford University Press) websites.
More recently I have been the scientific editor / reviewer for a new A level Biology textbook published by HarperCollins.

Jane is very knowledgeable about her subject and exam technique.
Jane is tutoring my son for A Level Biology. He has been impressed by her knowledge of the subject and of the exam structure and required technique. She is an engaging teacher who explains the topic clearly.
I found Jane through Tutorhunt, while looking for additional support in Biology for my daughter, Sophie, who was studying A level Biology. Following an AS Level at grade E, Sophie was tutored by Jane every two weeks, for a two hour session. She found the way that Jane explained things very clear, and it was apparent there were gaps in Sophie`s knowledge from GCSE level. Jane took the teaching right back to the basics, to give a good solid understanding of different areas of Biology. Her teaching methods of linking subject areas together, along with her vast knowledge, and experience of writing and marking exam papers was invaluable. Sophie gained confidence in answering questions, as Jane worked on the understanding of what the question was really asking for, and gave her many questions and essays to work on following the session.
Sophie enjoyed getting to know Jane, and the excellent learning that she provided enabled Sophie to achieve a C at A level, allowing her to study her chosen course at university.
Jane is very helpful, considerate and excellent tutor. Our son is happy with her tuition.
Very knowledgable about Biology and the course. Jane explains the relevant concepts well and in plenty of detail and I am confident that I can come to Jane with any Biology problem and she will be able to help me out.
Jane is an attentive and responsive tutor. She has been incredibly helpful in supporting our daughters understanding and revision of A level biology. I would highly recommend her.
